The
most important thing to consider when starting a clematis
garden is the end goal. If a garden that has many, many similar
colored blooms for a shorter period of time is desired, several
plants of the same species would do the trick nicely. However,
if a garden that is dynamic throughout the growing season
and changes bloom colors often would be more suitable, many
different species planted together would be much more likely.
One thing
to note when planting a clematis garden is that clematis blooms
may vary in color from year to year. If the garden is in full
sun, this will be even more prevalent. It is impossible to
stop this from happening to many of the species of clematis,
and this change year to year is one of the things that make
clematis so desirable to many gardeners.
